I really really like the idea of the pearl tiles. I can’t wait to see what they look like when they finally come out. I didn’t even know you could manipulate pearls like that. And I liked hearing about the history of the thinktank, some of that I didn’t know. Conferences are never fun, so it all makes sense! Good interview, lots of good information.

@John, My personal favorite for someone starting out in domaining, other than Elliot’s Blog, would be SullysBlog.com :) There are some great resources for new domainers. I recommend that you check Domaining.com daily for the latest post from some of the best contributors in the domaining industry. You’ll see a variety of opinions and you’ll need to take the information that you feel is valuable and discard the rest.

This is an outstanding article for an aspiring entrepreneur. I think your original 10 items, along with Mr. Harnish’s 11th point about not doing the research are excellent. Though the focus of my interest is on helping baby boomer entrepreneurs, I think your article provides a checklist that can benefit entrepreneurs of all ages.

Wow, I’ve got almost all of them ;-)

1) I use a Linksys Travel Router instead.

2) Don’t have it, usually use headphones since I really only need better sound to Skype from my laptop.

3) Got that.

4) Got a N95 that has a Skype App, but most hotel wireless networks don’t have the bandwidth to properly support Skype – at least when I’m at conferences.

5) Just recently bought it. It’s a little more bulky than anticipated and the USB charger does not work for my N95 (knew that beforehand though) nor did it work for my customer’s Verizon Mifi card.

I agree that “You’ve done no research” would be a nice addition to the list. To answer the value “perception” many people have problems with you might even add a 12th and say that “You haven’t asked your customers”. Like you said, many people think that they are adding great value to a market when really they are just addressing an issue that exists in their own mind. Ask your clients or potential clients what they want and they will tell you.

In my experience, entrepreneurs get hung up on the value they *perceive* they are providing to their target market, yet they didn’t take the time to *ask* a member of that target market is they see the same value proposition.

I suggest #11 – “you’ve done no research” as another reason why a entrepreneurial venture will fail.

Would I speak to you or your BD Manager about exploring a strategic alliance? I have recently started writing a business blog about easy effective ways for entrepreneurs and large companies alike improving profit.

The content is valuable. The concepts are innovative and proven over years in the marketplace from years as a senior management consultant partner. Most are free or can be implemented inexpensively and quickly.
